This is the greatest show I ever attended since my first shows in '78. First Set completely rocks. I particularly remember grasping how blessed I was when Till the Morning Comes started up on a bathroom run. Mason's Children also rocked harder than any of 1970 versions - exquisite. The second set is almost beyond my comprehension. It's such a perfection of what I believe are Phil's beliefs in music being manifested. The group mind of the quintet shines the love from a deep well of human experience.
Some highlights:
The Other One @ 4:20 - 5:40 Jimmy!!
The 11 @ 4:44-4:46 - Phil's basssss
St Stephen 6:00-6:25 sound familiar?? Warren love's rock
Anyhow, I wish I turn every one on to this music. Thank you Phil, thank you quintet, and thank you God for being so much fun!!
p.s. other suggestions from '02
5-23 2nd set
5-28 2nd set
6-1 2nd set

Congratulations to Ray Ackerman and Kieth Simmons for providing us with this astonishing audience recording of the Quintet at the peak of their mighty powers! I'm certainly enjoying this as much as any board recording of these cats. For those of you who haven't heard much from '02 yet, STOP what yer doin' and just download here and now. You Have Arrived. End of Rainbow, Pot of Gold. I have a pretty substantial collection from Phil's band since 4-99, and this is truly about as godly-good as it gets..."beyond the pale" as Garcia once quipped. Wish I'd been there.

These recordings were done by myself (Ray Ackerman) with the assistance of Keith Simmons. They were taped in the 5th row centerusing an Aerco MP2 pre-amp, not a Sound Devices as listed. The two nights were some of the best Phil shows I attended. The recording have since been re-mastered to 48/24 and sound very good indeed. Maybe I can get them up here if I get the time.

The Quintet at its most fearsome! Of the many shows I've seen since 1983, this weekend blew most of them off the map...
